How to use Google Pay, How to Create Google Pay Account



Google Pay is a Google app for online payment transactions from which you can send and receive money to anyone using a mobile making your life smooth and easy. Earlier, Google Pay, a digital payment app was known as Google Tez in India. Other than India, Android Pay was rebranded and renamed as Google Pay.

To make payments, you just need to enter the amount and tap, pay. This app will work even if the receiver is not on Google Pay. With Google Pay, you can store your financial information like credit, debit, gift, and reward cards for making future online payments such as online shopping, mobile recharge etc.

In the Google for India event held in New Delhi, Google Pay users from India will now be able to add debit and credit cards to the payments application, earlier only UPI-based payments from your bank accounts were allowed.

For debit and credit cards, Google Pay uses a technology called tokenisation which means Gooegle Pay application uses a digital token to authenticate your card instead of passing the actual card number to a vendor or merchant. The token is terminated once the payment is complete. Though tokenised cards feature will arrive in Google Pay in the next few weeks. The app presently supports only Visa cards from Axis Bank, HDFC, Standard Chartered Bank and State Bank of India, but more banks will be added soon which supports Mastercard and RuPay cards.

Also, Google announced a new Spots platform for Google Pay. With this, merchants and companies can create physical QR-Code and NFC-based payments cards for offline payments. Makemytrip, UrbanClap, Goibibo, RedBus, Eat.Fit and Oven Story are already available on the Spot Platform.After this, MakeMyTrip can allow ticket bookings directly through Google Pay.

Google also released Google Pay for Business that is only for small and medium sized-merchants and businesses. This is a different app from Google Pay that lets merchants use Google Pay for payments after verifing themselves via a phone call and submit documents online. In this post, we will tell you how to use google pay.

For Google Pay account to work, you must have


1. A bank account.
2. A mobile number that is linked to your bank account number.
3. A Debit/Credit card or a paypal account.
Note: You can’t directly add PayPal to your Google Pay account via the Google Pay app. You can add it via the web page or through your Google Play app after which your PayPal account will appear as a method of payment in the Google Pay app itself.

What you can do with Google Pay?

Send money to friends and family.
Pay your utility bills.
Recharge your prepaid mobile phone.
Buy items in shops with your phone.
Pay your AdWords bills.

How to Create/Open a Google Pay Account?


Now, as we hope you have got all the three above, now we begin creating 'Google Pay account'. These are the steps that must be followed to open a Google pay account:

  • Open Google play store on your mobile and download the 'Google Pay app'
  • Select your preferred language and tap on the arrow (See the right corner)
  • Enter your phone number registered with the bank account Allow SMS, contacts and location.
  • Your Email will be detected automatically, click on 'Continue'. If you have more than one Google account, you’ll be asked which account you want to use with it.
  • A one-time password (OTP) will be sent to your mobile number, let Google Pay app access it manually.
  • Choose the screen lock or create a Google pin. Select the option and click on 'Continue'.
  • Set up your Google screen lock or pin.

 Voila, you have just created your Google Pay account. You need to link your bank account to the Google Pay account for easy money transfer.

How to add a bank account in Google Pay?


Till this time, you have created a 'Google Pay account'. Now these are the steps that must be followed to add a bank account in Google pay account:

  • Open the Google Pay app, tap on your name at the top of the screen.
  • A new page appears with a message 'Add Bank Account,' tap on it.
  • List of various banks will be displayed, choose your 'Bank name' from the list.
  • A pop-up will appear, after choosing a bank, tap 'Allow'.
  • Another pop-up will be displayed showing the account link, click 'Ok'.
  • A verification SMS will be sent; after that, your mobile number will be verified to your account.
  • On a new screen that appears, tap on 'Enter UPI PIN' to link the New Bank account.
  • As you enter the UPI PIN, the bank account would be linked to the Google Pay app.

If you wish to change or remove a payment method - for example, a debit card that has been expired, it’s easy to do so. Go to the “Payment methods” page, and tap on “More payment settings” at the bottom of the page. A list of your current payment methods, with buttons to “Remove” or “Edit” at the bottom of each will be displayed.

How to send money through Google Pay?


You can use Google Pay to send money to friends and family in India using your mobile device. You’ll need an Internet connection, an Indian bank account and an Indian phone number.

You can find people to send money to if they’re nearby or you can search for them by their:

    Name
    Phone number
    UPI ID (typically friendname@bankname)
    Bank Account and IFSC code

a). How to send money to someone nearby with Google Pay:


Open 'Google Pay app' on both smartphones.
The sender needs to slide the circle in the middle of the screen up towards 'Pay'. The person who is receiving the money needs to slide down the circle.
Now tap on their profile photo. If you don't see their photo: Just go to the home screen, tap more and scan QR code. Ask the receiver to pull up their QR code so that you can scan it.
Enter the amount and description, and select the form of payment.
Tap Proceed to pay.
Enter your UPI PIN.
A notification will be sent once the payment has been completed.

b). How to send money to someone anywhere in India with Google Pay:


Open your Google Pay account
Tap a contact to make a payment. If you don't see the person that you want to send money to, tap on 'New Payment' on the home screen and tap the third option 'Bank transfer.' Enter all the Bank details and tap 'Continue.'
Tap 'Pay' and enter the amount with description
Tap Proceed to pay.
Enter your UPI PIN.
A notification will be sent once the payment has been completed. An SMS will also be sent from your bank for the debited amount.

How to Get or request money from someone using Google Pay nearby



Note: Google Pay uses audio pairing to help you connect with nearby users. You’ll need to give Google Pay permission to use your microphone.

Open Google Pay Google Pay.
Swipe the circle in the middle of the screen down towards 'Receive'. Ask the other person to swipe the circle up towards 'Pay'.
The other person will need to tap on your photo to pay you. Once they have begun the payment process, you will see their name on your screen.
When your money arrives, you’ll get a notification.

How to Get or request money with a QR code from someone using Google Pay nearby


If you have trouble with the instructions above, you can receive money by QR code.

Open Google Pay Google Pay.
Tap More More and then Display QR code.
Ask the other person to tap Scan QR code and scan the QR code on your mobile device.
When your money arrives, you’ll get a notification.

How to Get or request money from a Google Pay contact somewhere else in India


Ask the person to search for your name, phone number, account number or UPI ID in Google Pay. When the other person finishes paying, you’ll get a notification.

Request money

Open Google Pay Google Pay.
From the bottom of the screen, swipe up.
Tap the photo of the contact for which you require payment.
You can also search for their name, phone number, account number or UPI ID.
At the bottom of the screen, tap Request.
Enter the amount and description.
Tap Request.

When the other person pays or declines your request, you’ll get a notification from Google Pay.
Note: You will receive money in the account set as Primary in your Google Pay bank account settings.

Respond to a request for money

Note: If you’re opening the request from a notification, start from step 5.

Open Google Pay Google Pay.
From the bottom of the screen, slide up.
Tap the name or photo of the contact who sent the request.
Tap the Pay option on the request.
Review information about the requester, amount and description and choose a form of payment.
Tap Proceed to pay.
Enter your UPI PIN.

When the money has been sent, you’ll get a notification. You'll also receive an SMS from your bank with the debited amount.


Decline a request

Open Google Pay Google Pay.
From the bottom of the screen, slide up.
Tap the name or photo of the person who sent the request.
On the request, tap Decline.

Limits on how much you can send


There are daily and monthly limits to how much money you can send or receive using Google Pay. Google Pay limits can be different as compared to UPI, your bank and Google.

Learn about the different bank limits.

If you reach one of the following limits, here’s what you can do.
Daily limits
You may reach a daily limit if:
You try to send more than Rs.1,00,000 in one day across all UPI apps.
You try to send money more than 10 times in one day across all UPI apps.

Wait until the next day to send more money.
Bank limits
If your daily transactions are below the UPI limit and you’re still having trouble, try a different bank account.

Your bank might have its own limits on how much you can send or receive. Contact your bank for more information.
Other limits

To protect against fraud, some transactions might get flagged for further review. If you’re having trouble making a transaction and you don’t think you reached a limit, contact Google Pay support for more help.

How to check the Google pay balance?


View account balance

Open Google Pay Google Pay.
In the top left, tap your photo > Bank account.
Tap on the account whose balance you want to check.
Tap View Balance.
Enter your UPI PIN.

If you can’t view your account balance:
Make sure that you entered the right UPI PIN. If you have forgotten your UPI PIN, you can create a new one.
Remove and re-add your bank account, and try again.

How to reset your Google pay UPI?


Your UPI PIN is the number you enter whenever you add a new payment account or make a transaction.

You’ll be asked to set a UPI PIN when you first add a bank account. If you already have a UPI PIN for your bank account, you can use the same UPI PIN on Google Pay. You can also change your UPI PIN using Google Pay.

If you forget your UPI PIN, you can create a new one easily. Get your debit card details handy and follow the steps to create a new UPI PIN.

Open Google Pay
Tap your photo on the top left hand side.
Then tap on 'Payment Methods.'
Then tap the bank account you want to edit.
Tap on 'Forgot UPI PIN?'.
Enter the last 6 digits of your debit card number, and the expiry date.
Create a new UPI PIN.
Enter the OTP you get by SMS.

How to change your Google pay UPI PIN


If you want to change your Google Pay UPI PIN, follow these steps:

Open Google Pay.
Tap your photo on the top left
Tap 'Payment Methods'.
Tap the bank account you want to edit.
Tap on the three dots given on upper right corner
Three options will appear, tap on 'Change UPI PIN.'
Create a new UPI PIN, re-enter the PIN to confirm.
Note: If you enter a wrong UPI PIN more than 3 times, you might not be able to change or reset your UPI PIN for 24 hours. You won’t be able to send or receive money during this time.

View transaction history
Android iPhone & iPad

Open Google Pay Google Pay.
From the bottom of the screen, slide your finger up to show your contacts.
To see all transactions: At the bottom of the screen, tap All transactions.
To see transactions with a specific person: Tap the contact.
Click on each transaction to view more details.

Report a problem with a transaction

If money has been debited from your account, but the person you sent money to hasn’t received it, you can report the transaction to your bank.

Open the transaction that you want to report.
Tap More Moreand then Report a problem.
Tap Report.

How to Close your Google pay account?



These are the steps in case you want to close your Google Pay account:

Open Google Pay
Tap your profile photo on the top-left corner.
Then tap 'Close account.'
After that uninstall the app from your phone.
Google Pay will de-link your bank accounts from the Google Pay app once you close your Google Pay account.
